What is Eurax?

Drug Uses

Eurax is a scabicide; it is a topical medication which is administered as treatment for scabies, as well as for the purpose of reducing the itchiness associated with such a condition.

How to Take Eurax

Shake the container of the lotion well before using it. As a treatment for scabies, make a thin application on all of the affected parts on your body, beginning with the neck area, and down onto the foot soles (the condition does not normally affect the head). Make sure that your skin is dry before you rub it in; leave the medicine for twenty-four hours, and administer a second application. Rinse the medication off after forty-eight hours of the most recent application. For the treatment of itching, massage the cream onto the affected parts until all of it is thoroughly absorbed. Make successive applications as needed, or as directed.

Drug Precautions

Avoid making applications of the medication on your eyes, nose, or mouth. If the cream gets into these areas, rinse it off immediately with plenty of water. Keep your applications away from exposed cuts and wounds; this could cause too much of the substance to be taken in by your body, with potentially health-threatening consequences. Eurax is for external use only; do not ingest it. It is not yet known if the medication can cause harm to an unborn child, or if it can pass through breast milk; if you are with child or are currently nursing a baby, take Eurax under close medical supervision.

Drug Interactions

Eurax may severely interact with other topical medications if they are used simultaneously on an affected area. Avoid administering other topical preparations on areas which are currently under treatment with Eurax.

Side Effects

It is highly uncommon for you to experience severe adverse effects if you use Eurax. But if you obtain an allergic reaction as a result of using it (indications of such include laborious breathing, a constricted sensation on the throat, hives, and inflamed areas on the face) seek medical attention at once. It is normal for you to experience a slight itchiness following an application, or a stinging and burning sensation; but if your condition gets worse, or if the symptoms develop (if itching, inflammation, and burning sensations become severe), inform your doctor immediately.

Missed Dose

Eurax is normally applied in two doses, and each is administered after a 24-hour interval. If you miss the second application, you may need to do it over with new treatment doses.

Overdose

If you inadvertently ingest the medication, contact a poison center within your area at once. The possible signs that you may have incurred an overdose of Eurax (after swallowing) may include burning sensations within the mouth; nausea and vomiting; irritation or swollenness within the mouth and the stomach lining; and abdominal pain.

Storage

Store the topical medication within standard room temperatures, and keep it away from extreme sources of moisture and heat. Dispose of the drug if it surpasses the expiration date.
