What is Cyclobenzaprine?

Drug Uses

Cyclobenzaprine relaxes the muscles by inhibiting the nerve signals (in the form of pain sensations) which are being sent to the brain. The medication is administered in combination with physical therapy and bed rest, in order to ease conditions associated with the skeletal muscles such as muscle pain or injury.

How to Take Cyclobenzaprine

Cyclobenzaprine is usually administered in three daily doses of ten milligram tablets (for adults). You may take it with an empty stomach or with your daily meals. Swallow the tablet as it is – you may take it with water if you have difficulty in ingesting it. Do not tamper with the extended-release capsule by breaking or opening it prior to prior to ingestion. Do not take the medication in daily dosages which exceed 60 mg.

Drug Precautions

Do not take Cyclobenzaprine if you have recently incurred cardiac failure, or if you are bearing similar conditions (disorder with the hear rhythm, heart congestion which leads to cardiac arrest, or heart block). If you are currently taking MAO inhibitors, or if you have used such medication within the last two weeks, do not take Cyclobenzaprine. The combination of such medicines can lead to life-threatening adverse conditions; wait until the MAO inhibitor clears from your body before you take Cyclobenzaprine.

The list of medications which interact with Cyclobenzaprine is extensive: atropine, dimenhydrinate, scopolamine, or benztropine; bronchodilators, including ipratroprium and tiotropium; tramadol; glycopyrrolat, or mepenzolate; medicines for bladder and urinary tract conditions, including darifenacin, solifenacin, solifenacin and flavoxate; guanethidine; and drugs for irritable bowel syndrome like dicyclomine and propantheline.
