Finding the best Christmas movies for kids is not the easiest thing in the world. For every obvious old classic, there are ten or twenty small market choices to sort through. Still, it seems that year after year people flock back to the Christmas movies that they loved as a child. As the generations change, some of the kids favorites have too. Amazingly, some of the oldest Christmas movies remain on most people’s list. Here is my list of the top ten Christmas movies for children:

How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Nobody brings in the Christmas season quite like the old Grinch. Whether you watch the original cartoon, or the newer Jim Carrey version, the Grinch is on most every kid’s list of must see Christmas television.
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Rudolph has been a staple in the kid’s Christmas movie arena for decades and with good reason. The innocence and message are universal every year, and for most kids it is not Christmas until they see Rudolph’s nose lead the way.
The Polar Express
The Polar Express is fast becoming a classic in it’s own right as every year it is sought after. Children love the visuals, and adults love the message that it sends. Whatever the reason, The Polar Express is a movie that will be around decades from now.
Miracle on 34th Street
One of the oldest and most endearing movies about Christmas somehow still manages to hold the attention of the youngsters. The fact that this movie has remained near the top of the Christmas heap after all these years is truly a miracle in it’s own right. This is movie magic at it’s most basic and best.
Frosty the Snowman
Frosty is perhaps one of the most well known Christmas characters and this movie is among the reasons why. As a child, I was a bit scared of the snowman that came to life, but he grew on me as the years went by. This is a classic to say the least.
Mickey’s Christmas Carol
Every child loves Mickey Mouse and every child loves Christmas. This is the perfect way to tell the story of Scrooge.
A Christmas Story
No Christmas is complete until this movie plays about six hundred times. If the kids are around, you have to stop each and every time too. This is hilarious and timeless.
Frosty’s Winter Wonderland
This is one of the best follow ups to the oldies, and is absolutely captivating to the children that watch it. If you are looking for Christmas movies that can be watched over and over again, then this is a great place to start. They will never grow tired of it.
Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas
This one is among the lesser known films on this list, but not to anybody that has ever seen it. The story that is told is so basic and refreshing. What I love about this film is the way they capture the purest essence of the Christmas season. If you have not seen this, make sure you add it this Christmas season. You will be glad you did.
Elf
Not everyone gets Elf as a movie, but the kids certainly do. This movie has pushed it’s way up the list steadily, and is a must see every year come Christmas time. Will Ferrell is so much better when he is not vulgar in my opinion. He is at his best in this movie.
