How To Stay Safe On Prom Night

Prom night is one of the most special times in your young teen life. Many teens will remember this night as a snapshot of their high school years that was magical and special. Many other teens like yourself may instead look back upon prom night as a night of horror. Drunk driving, drugs, and crime are all things that you need to look out for on prom night, and you have to be smart about the choices that you make. Here are some tips to make certain that you stay safe on prom night, and that your memories will be good ones.

Make sure that you prom date is someone whom you know well. It is best if it is somebody that you have gone out with before, and that you are comfortable with. Make certain that you have met their family, and that your date has met yours. This is not always easy as a young teen in High School, but it is important. You do not ever want a first date to be your prom date. Not only is it dangerous, but you may not enjoy your prom from an entertainment stand point very much either.

Always go to the prom with at least one buddy date that you know and trust. If you are unable to get a date that you are familiar with, then this rule is an absolute must. Go in a group, but also make sure that a best friend is with you at all times. This system helps to keep you safe on prom night.

Make certain that your date is not planning on a night of drinking and partying. Booze and drugs as a high school student is a virtual lock for trouble on prom night, as every cop in the city will be on the lookout. Not only that, but under aged drinking will take you down a very slippery slope. Drunk driving and drugs are sure to get in you trouble, and in some cases, kill you or others. Leave them alone and make sure your date is on board with the same.

Never separate yourself from your prom night group. If you see that you are going to be left alone with your prom date, and you have any feelings of distrust, then call someone to come and get you. You are not obligated to make out, have sex, drink, or anything else on prom night. Do not allow others to make those decisions for you by isolating you in a situation. Take control and have an out just in case with your parents or a trusted friend or family member.

Talk with your date before the prom about your expectations and theirs. Find out what they are into, and what every part of their plans include. If they do not jive with yours, then consider breaking the date and going solo with some friends. Again, you should be on the same page with your date for prom night.

If you follow these simple rules, then you should be perfectly safe and have a wonderful prom to look back on. Make sure that you always remember to stay with your buddy for the night, and that you stay in control of your surroundings. No peer pressure is worth putting yourself in danger. Remember that and you will have a great time.
