	X windows Protocol. A protocol developed in the 1980s to provide a common graphical user interface that is independent of the host computer architecture and includes a specification of a remote access mechanism to allow distributed access to remote applications from a single workstation. The protocol specification covers the screen, keyboard, and mouse of the workstation.
