Definition of NNTP

Network News Transfer Protocol. An application protocol used to support the transfer of network news (Usenet) within the Internet. The protocol is used for bulk news transfer and remote access from clients to a central server. NNTP uses TCP to support reliable transfer. This protocol is a point-to-point transfer protocol. Efforts to move to a reliable multicast structure for Usenet news are still an active area of protocol refinement and research.
