Definition of BGP

Border Gateway Protocol. An Internet routing protocol used to pass routing information between different administrative routing domains or ASs (Autonomous Systems). The BGP routing protocol does not pass explicit topology information. Instead, it passes a summary of reachability between ASs. BGP is most commonly deployed as an inter-AS routing protocol.
