Definition of SLA

Service Level Agreement. Generally, a service contract between a network service provider and a subscriber guaranteeing a particular service's quality characteristics. SLAs vary from one provider to another and usually are concerned with network availability and data-delivery relability. Violations of an SLA by a service provider may result in a prorated service rate for the next billing period for the subscriber as a compensation for the service provider not meeting the terms of the SLA, for example.
