Definition of Ethernet

 
 A LAN (Local Area Network) specification invented by the Xerox Corporation and then jointly developed by Xerox, Intel, and Digital Equipment Corporation. Ethernet uses CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Detection) and operates on various media types. It is similar to the IEEE 802.3 series of protocols.
