Definition of PPP

Point-to-Point Protocol. A data-link framing protocol used to frame data packets on point-to-point links. PPP is a variant of the HDLC (High-Level Data Link Control) data-link framing protocol. The PPP specification also includes remote-end identification and authentication (PAP and CHAP), a link-control protocol (to establish, configure and test the integrity of data transmitted on the link), and a family of network-control protocols specific to different network-layer protocols.
