One of the most common additions you see on sites are search engines. Many websites out there have placed a search box or pay per click ads on their site that allows their visitors to use one type of search engine to search the web. Back in the olden days of the web, the owners of these sites did this just provide their users with an extra service. Now with literally thousands of search engines out there, search engines are willing to pay you for putting their box on your site. The Google search box not only allows visitors on your site to search Google, but enables them to search for pages on your own site. This is convenient if you don’t currently have search functionality. Moreover, when visitors land on the search pages, search ads are displayed and you are paid every time someone clicks on an ad.
It’s important to note that this is in no way a get rich quick idea, where you put a simple search box or pay per click ads on your website, sit back and watch the money roll in. The amount they pay you isn’t huge but in can add up, ranging from 10 cents to a few dollars per click, some of the more popular pay per click companies such as adsense tend to offer higher click prices due to their massive advertising inventories. Unless you have a high amount of traffic it will probably take a while before you even see a check. However, keep in mind it only takes seconds placing a search box or ad code on your site, and for the minimal effort you get paid!
If you are considering making money online with pay per click ads there are some things to consider. First, although normally not a big concern, placing a search box or PPC ads on you site invites visitors to leave it. This should be factored in when deciding where to place it. If you have a links section on your site then there is no issue, since a links page also invites visitors to leave you site. However if you are placing it on another page, you may want to place it at them bottom so your entire page gets viewed before any one searches. Also if you run a business that relies on selling products you may want to careful about using ppc ads on your site, since the 10-cents you might get for a click isn’t worth the loss of a potential sale.
Another thing to consider is the type of business your site is will affect the type of pay per click ads you want to place. For example, there is a search engine out there that allows people to search for accommodations. This would be a great addition to a site revolved around travel but not great idea for a site that is for a bed and breakfast because you are sending users to view your competition.
As stated previously you likely won’t get rich from using a search box or pay per click ads but you can earn a few extra dollars. It cost nothing to join these programs and if you were thinking about placing a search box or AdSense ads on your site you might as well get paid.
