First of all, many readers may be pondering over this question; what is a link farm? A link farm is a large list of links where webmasters can post their link, in return for a reciprocal website link. Usually, these contain links from a very wide range of subjects. Nowadays, search engines frown upon using these, yet many still do. Nonetheless, it does have a few advantages which should not be overlooked when contrasted with the negatives.
First of all, it depends which type of link farm you are using. There are two kinds, including computer automatic generated farms and human generated farms. As you can probably guess, the computer generated farms are the ones that are frowned upon. If you are looking to really maximize and improve your web page, stick with the human generated. The computer generated farms will usually get you penalized for spamming (which happens to thousands of webmasters).
Link farms do have positives as mentioned before. They help you build links, which improves your page rank, as well as a number of other things. If a web page is extremely relevant (in a link farm), it carries much more weight than a web page that is irrelevant. The more quality links you can acquire, the more successful you are likely to be. The links are looked upon as votes. The more “votes” you have, the better chance you have of getting high up in the search engines. But once again, it is better to have 5 quality links, than to have 50 bad quality links.
So, as these links increase your web pages ranking in the search engine results (be it Google, or Yahoo, they are great), you will benefit in many ways. If you are running an affiliate website, you are more likely to make sales (more visitors = more chance of selling). Then again, where your web page will appear in rankings does depend on more than just links, and every webmaster knows this for a fact.
All in all, it is evident that human link farms are “the way to go” for webmasters. Using automatic link farms are only going to create problems for webmasters, so stay away from them (even as tempting as they may seem, do not fall for it)! It is better to acquire quality links overtime, than too quickly get 50 terrible quality links. Many webmasters make the mistake of submitting their web page to an automatic link farm when they first join the online world, and from there, it does nothing but hinder their progress. Take your time, and get quality links, and you are bound to find more success than any of the automated link farms will offer you.
