Spring Cleaning Tasks That Can Not Be Ignored

Lots of people talk about doing spring cleaning, and in years past it was an annual event for most households. Today people are so busy that spring cleaning sometimes means little more than packing up your winter clothes and taking out your flip flops. Following are a few tips to accomplish real spring cleaning. Even if you clean your house regularly or have someone else do it for you, there are certain tasks that need to be accomplished seasonally. At the same time, this should no longer be the huge homemaking undertaking it was years ago because we have so many products and appliances to help us.

The first task in a good spring cleaning should be changing your seasonal wardrobe. Fortunately, this can be done in an hour or less for each person in your household. It helps to have permanent containers like Rubbermaid bins labeled so you can reuse them each year. Don’t forget to leave a small number of off-season clothes and shoes in your closet, though, so if the weather gets weird or you end up taking an unexpected trip to a strange climate, you won’t be left having to buy new stuff. If you have more than one child of the same gender, label the containers with the clothing sizes rather than the child’s name, because chances are that it will be a different child who wears the clothes during the next go-round.

Cleaning the windows may be the most traditional of spring cleaning duties. There are companies that will do this for you and if you can afford to hire them, it’s a nice luxury to have clean windows without your own elbow grease. If not, do this the way the companies themselves do it by power washing the windows with window cleaner attached to a hose. A large home improvement store will help you buy the proper equipment necessary to do this.

Cleaning window treatments is also an important part of spring cleaning. If you have blinds or shades, you’ll want to wipe them down with a feather duster. If you have fabric curtains, now is the time to take them down and get them dry cleaned. Most curtains don’t look dirty until you take them down and examine them carefully, but removing the dust that collects in them is crucial, especially during springtime when allergy problems are at their worst.

Finally, cleaning light fixtures like chandeliers and ceiling fans is crucial during spring cleaning. This can be a pain, especially if you have a crystal chandelier. Fortunately, we have some tools that can make the process easier that our mothers and grandmothers didn’t have. Use this time to get reacquainted with some of the deeper tracks on your iPod and you’ll find the time passes quicker than you think is possible.
