  • Set your water heater at a temperature of 120 degrees F or less.
  • Always test the water before letting your children enter the tub.

  • Keep away all plastic wrapping or packing materials from young children.
  • Make sure to take pillows, toys, and blankets out of your baby’s crib.
  • Keep small items away from small children, as they can choke on them.

  • Lock away all dangerous items in a cabinet with a child safety lock, including cosmetics, which are also potentially dangerous.
  • Install a carbon monoxide detector near all bedrooms.

Safety from drowning: Drowning is something that can happen very fast, so it is important that you can prevent drowning in your home in every way possible.

  • Stay within arm’s reach of young children whenever they are in the tub.
  • Don’t allow other children to baby-sit children when near water.
  • Use toilet lid locks.
  • Keep large buckets turned over to prevent water from collecting inside them.

Safety from falling:

  • Install safety gates at the tops and bottoms of stairs.
  • Install window guards on windows on the upper levels of your home.
  • Make sure all cribs, beds, and other furniture are away from any windows.
  • Always properly put away step stools and ladders after use.

The safety of your home for your children is your responsibility. Although it takes an extra amount of effort, every bit is worth it.
