Eliminating snakes from your yard is not a very difficult thing to do for most people. If you live near a woodland area, or close to water, then your snake elimination project may be a bit more difficult. Regardless of where you live, there are a number of things that you can do to help eliminate snakes from your yard effectively. The key is to find what they are looking for.

The first key to eliminating snakes from your yard is to know why they are there. If a snake has taken up residence in your yard, chances are it has found one of three things; food, shelter, or water. Notice that list did not include a tasty human to eat, or a leg to bite. Snakes are not evil, and they have no interest whatsoever in getting near us humans.
They do, however, want to find a nice plump mouse or rat. If your yard is filled with things that might attract mice, then snakes will eventually follow. They love habitats that include mice, and will hunt them anywhere. To eliminate snakes from your yard, you need to eliminate their food sources. That means keeping your yard well kept, and free of debris. No mice equals fewer or no snakes.
Another thing that snakes come into yards for is water. If you have a swimming pool, birdbath, or standing water source anywhere in your yard, this is a magnet for snakes. Water is tough for the average snake to find in the wild, and a ready made source like that is too tempting. If the snakes in your yard are that much trouble, then you may need to eliminate the water source.
The final, and most common problem with attracting snakes is shelter. Like any animal, a snake is constantly looking for places to hide, and places to hunt. Snakes absolutely love wood piles, rocky areas, gardens, and any other openings that you might have in your home. Many people have quite the surprise when they go under their home for the first time in a bit. It is not uncommon to find a snake or three.
This final problem is the key to controlling snakes. The same things that attract mice, attract snakes by default. The snake will follow the mouse, etc. Make sure any and all wood piles are cleaned up and neat. Eliminate any yard clutter that you might have. Old cars, abandoned swimming pools, and broken down toys are common culprits. If it is trash, you need to remove it. If you take away the habitat, you will eliminate snakes from your yard.
Eliminate unnecessary water sources. If you have standing water in your yard, snakes are not the only problem you have. Mosquitos and other dangerous insects are also a danger to you. Eliminate any standing water on your property as quickly as possible.
Finally, board up and fill in any holes, cracks, or openings in your ground level structures. Snakes view that tiny opening in the basement door as an invitation to come hunting. Fill in the gaps, and let those snakes know they are not welcome in the house.
Though snakes in your yard are actually a huge benefit to you in most cases, people rarely see the good of the situation. Snakes are great pest control, though they are often considered the pests themselves. If you follow these tips, you can eliminate most snakes from your yard for good.
