Five Hidden Dangers Most Homeowners Miss

Homeowners often spend thousands of dollars upgrading their homes visually, and making them look like a million dollars. Ironically, the money often would be better spent on making their home and family safe. Home safety dangers are often hidden, and it is not uncommon for them to exist and the homeowner not even know about them. Here are five home safety dangers that you should make certain are not a part of your home:

Proper Home Security - While not all homeowners can afford to arm their homes with a high tech home security system, that is no excuse to overlook security all together. There are a number of inexpensive yet valuable home security systems on the market that can be installed in a couple of hours. These systems range from basic tweeters upon entry to video surveillance. Be sure that your home and family are protected against burglars and other criminals.

Proper Fire Safety Precautions - The number of homes out there that are not protected against fire would shock you. While certainly homeowners should have fire alarms, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers in the home, they also need to have an escape plan in place for every part of the house. This is especially true for homes that are large or have two floors.

Water Safety - A large number of homes have water safety issues and do not even know it. Mercury levels, as well as chlorine levels are notoriously present in our home water sources. For this reason, you should check your water with a tester every few months to ensure you are drinking safe water. To avoid this type of problem, adding a really good water filtration system can be very effective.

Pest infestations -Though cockroaches, rodents, mosquitoes, flies, and various other household pests are an obvious nuisance, their true dangers are often hidden. For example, cockroaches can trigger everything from salmonella to an asthma attack. Rodents not only bring their own brand of nastiness to a home, but they bring several other species of insect right along with them. Mosquitoes are very dangerous and kill millions. Maybe a good pest control service is in order, no?

Mold -Mold is one of the most silent and intrusive killers we can find in and around our house. While some molds are obvious, like black mold, others are completely unseen by the naked eye. Do not depend on your senses or just normal housecleaning to determine if you have mold or not. Plan regular inspections of your home, and make sure you eliminate all standing water or moisture that you can. Do not take mold lightly, as it can make you very sick.

These are only five of the hidden dangers that many homeowners do not think about until it is too late. Do not be one of those homeowners that waits until the last minute to solve a problem. Get out there and have your home checked out. Be proactive rather than reactive.
