Five Family Activities That We All Should Do More Of

Family activities are fast becoming a thing of the past in the hustle and bustle of today’s world. Kids are flying off in different directions, and Parents are generally trying to keep up as best they can. As a Parent, there are some things that we can do. The first thing is that we should implement a slower lifestyle. Let your kids enjoy their activities, but not at the expense of family time. Fortunately, you can actually do both if you take the time to enjoy your kid’s activities. Here are five family activities that you can start doing right away to increase your family time:

picnic
Picnics - A picnic is one of the time honored traditions of the family, and should be done at least once a month. This can include your extended family as well, and can bring folks together that do not normally get to see one another. The picnic is a wonderful family activity that will build closeness and a sense of communication. Both are wonderful things for a family.

Eating supper together - This should be a rule in every single house. At supper time, every person should be at the table. When children are growing up, and particularly teens, supper time is the one time where they should be able to talk about their day. It is also a good time for the teen to ask questions that they might feel awkward asking at other times. The distraction of a meal can sometimes open that line of communication.

Go on weekend camping trips - Camping trips are a wonderful way to build teamwork and camaraderie in a family. While every family spends vacations together of some sort, the camping trip forces them to spend it together in close proximity. Again, this is good to build those family ties that last a lifetime. The memories of camping will last a lifetime.

Hikes and Bikes - Getting out and exercising as a family is another wonderful way to bond. Taking a hike up the mountain, or riding bikes on the local trails are all excellent ways to get fit as a family, both physically and mentally. Family activities that also increase our good health habits are a double bonus.

Talking to each other - The simple family activity of talking to each other is the single most ignored activity of all. We have to take the time to communicate with our kids, and each other as Parents. Without this line of communication it is impossible to raise our children in a safe environment. It is also vital to a strong, respectful marriage. Talk to one another often, and ask questions.

These are only five family activities that can help to build the family ties that last a lifetime. Anything that brings you all together in the same place at the same time is a good thing for your family. Simply slow down, and let life come to you once in awhile. You will discover each other all over again.
