Eliminating Black Widow Infestations in Your Home

The black widow has a reputation as being a deadly spider, and to a certain degree that is true. Black widow spiders have killed human beings before. Occasionally, a homeowner will become infested with these arachnids. The mixture of humans and spider can be quite dangerous, especially for children and the elderly. Fortunately, there are a number of measures you can take to eliminate a black widow infestation quickly and efficiently.

First of all, you must understand that the black widow is simply following the food. If the spider’s favorites are regular visitors in and around your home, then the black widows will likely follow. Black widow spiders like to eat insects of all kinds.

The other problem that people have is potential hiding places for the black widow spiders. The black widow spider likes to remain hidden from human contact. If your home is not in good repair, then the chances of black widow infestation increases. If you have lots of trash, boxes, holes in the walls, and other things strewn about your home or garage, then you are inviting black widows to come in and set up shop.

Ironically, the solution for both causes of black widow infestation is the same. Clean up that house and yard! If you have a woodpile near the house, move it away from the house. If you have lots of boxes and other storage in the garage or house, replace them with airtight containers. If you have a home that is not clean throughout, clean it. Leave no food laying around, and make sure that you vacuum regularly.

Another tip to draw away those bugs and spiders is to put your bug zapper on a pole out in the yard rather than on your front porch. By placing this on the front porch, you are drawing the bugs towards the house and not away. Also, make sure that you cover up all holes and entryways for the spiders into your home. These spiders are very capable climbers so get the holes that are at ground level and up high.

Black widow spider infestations are much harder to eradicate than they are to prevent, so take the measures now to prevent them from happening. If you wait until they are already in the home, the job will be much tougher and you will likely need professional pest control services. If you follow the simple steps in this article, then you should be able to eradicate your black widow infestation easily and quickly or prevent it from happening all together.
