If you have a vegetable garden, it probably seems a bit upsetting when the summer ends. Most people automatically assume that their garden is done at this time until next year. It is important to keep in mind that there are many plants that grow very well in autumn. Although there are many which simply do not grow during this time of year, there are others which do. While there are some that grow really good and are not affected by the frost, there are others which can be destroyed at the first sign of cold weather and frost. Here are some of the best plants to grow during the fall season, as well as others that may not be such a great choice.
Plants That Won’t be Affected by the Frost
There are a number of different plants that will not be affected by the frost when it comes during the fall. If you want to make the most out of the crops that you plant during autumn, these are the best choices for you. They include peas, spinach, onion, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, turnips, radishes, broccoli, pumpkins, and rhubarb. What wonderful additions to your cooking repertoire! The best thing about all of these plants is that they will last until the time that you pick them, so you do not need to worry about losing out on money or the amount of time that you spend trying to grow these crops to perfection. For crops that you will eventually end up able to eat, these are all really great options.
Plants That May be Affected by the Frost
In addition to plants that will not be affected by the frost, there are also ones that are also crops that can be destroyed once the cold weather comes. Some of these different plants include carrots, potatoes, lettuce, celery, beets, cauliflower, and Chinese cabbage. Although these crops do grow very well when they are planted early enough, they do not always make it through autumn if the temperature drops enough for there to be even one small frost. If you are the type of person who takes a lot of pride in the crops that they grow and spends a lot of time in the garden, then these plants may not be the best choices for you to plant.
When planting crops during autumn, the most important thing that you can do is in plan in advance. Planting the crops early enough so that they will have to mature is the most important thing. Most seed packets will say how long it takes them to mature. If you do not plant the seeds in time, the weather may prevent them from being able to mature in time. If you are looking for a great plant to grow in autumn, those that are listed under plants that won’t be affected by the frost can be a great choice for you. Although the plants that may be affected by the frost can be grown, they are simply more likely to be affected by the frost than others. This does not mean that they are necessarily bad choices, however.

Your information is very interesting, but flowers are also nice to keep going for color. I live in Southeast Texas and we start planting mums, petunias, and pansies in October for the winter months. We have flowers year round along with our tropical palms in our backyard, but having mums, petunias, and pansies are an extra for us to enjoy there colors in the winter time.
