The job of cleaning gutters is one that most people would much rather ignore. Not many people are excited about digging their hands into the nasty goop and leaf litter that fills up inside. Still, it is a job that must be done. Some people have gone to the newer self cleaning gutter systems that are on the market. Some people pay others to clean their gutters. For the rest of us, we have to climb that ladder and clean those gutters by hand. What exactly are the advantages of cleaning gutters anyway? Why is it so darn important?

For one, your gutters are not going to last very long if they are filled with debris. Gutters that have clogs throughout are sure to fall apart, and in some cases it might just take the eaves of the home with them. This advantage of cleaning your gutters is obvious, but people do not seem to take it seriously. You can walk virtually any street in America and about every fourth home will have gutters that desperately need cleaning. The weight of the debris is one huge reason to cleaning your gutters regularly.
Another key advantage to cleaning your gutters is to keep standing water areas away from your home. If your gutters are not directing water effectively, then this means they are directing them in the wrong places or not at all. That water runoff can cause major damage to wood, and can even get into your home in extreme cases. Gutter cleaning is needed to keep your home safe and sound, and water free where you want it to be.
The biggest advantage to cleaning gutters is simply that you can feel good about it being done. There is little that makes us feel better than to know that we are trash and debris free. If you know that the gutters are clogged, it will weigh heavily on your mind until you clean them out.
If the job of cleaning the gutters is too taxing for you, or if you are admittedly accident prone, then you may want to consider the newer gutter alternatives. They make gutters that are one hundred percent self cleaning. They cost a bit more, but you never have to worry if they are working or not. It is worth the financial investment. If you pay someone else to clean your gutters, then the money that you are spending would clearly buy the new gutters over time. Consider this if you are paying others.
The advantages of cleaning gutters are quite obvious for you and your family. You have gutters that are working properly, you are protecting your home from damage and you have the peace of mind in knowing it is done. Each of these advantages are good enough reason to keep them clean, so get on that ladder and get started!

We clean out our gutters every few months and earlier if needed. We have pine trees and other trees that surround our home so this is a must since we had our gutters custom made and we know that standing water or blocked water due to debris causes the gutters to weight down and they won’t last long. Cleaning the gutters with the hands and then hosing down the gutters to make sure all the debris is out just eases the mind knowing they are clean for the next big rain. It doesn’t take that long to clean them out, and rest assure you will be glad you keep this as a routine.
