Signs and Symptoms of a Panic Attack

Panic attacks are one of the most debilitating medical problems on the planet. One of the reasons for this is because they are nearly impossible to fix quickly. The majority of people that experience panic attacks will suffer with them at least occasionally throughout their lives. There are some wonderful treatments that can bring relief, but some people do not respond well to them. The key is to try all of the treatments until you find the one that works for you.

One of the most common symptoms of panic attacks is hyperventilation. Hyperventilation can be a very scary experience, and often causes the sufferer to think that something major is wrong with them. Hyperventilation in and of itself is fairly harmless, but that is no relief to someone that is experiencing it. It makes you feel dizzy, and like you can not catch your breath. Hyperventilation can also cause one to feel as though their skin is crawling, and brief moments of numbness in various parts of their bodies.

Another common symptoms of panic attack is a racing pulse. This works in concert with the hyperventilation to cause the sufferer to panic even further. Some other symptoms that may arise are heart palpitations, excess sweating and on occasion, chest pain.

The chest pain is one of the most troubling panic attack symptoms, and it is not uncommon for the sufferer to show up at an emergency room thinking they are having a heart attack. This experience is deeply troubling, and is scary beyond belief. Even after a panic attack is shown to not be a heart attack, the experience can be so scary that they continue to worry about it. This is a hallmark of generalized anxiety disorder, which is a common problem for people who experience panic attacks.

Another common symptom of panic attack is a feeling of impending doom. This feeling is probably tied in some way to the helplessness that one feels when they experience an attack. It is hard to not feel as though the attacks will ever stop. One panic attack per day can feel as though you have them constantly, because of the powerful and painful nature of them.

Panic attack symptoms can manifest themselves in many different ways. Depending on a number of factors that we do not yet fully understand, panic attacks are unpredictable and can cause symptoms in some people that do not show up with others. This randomness is one of the reasons that panic attacks are so frustrating to treat. When a person has symptoms, you have to clear them of any other problems before you move on to panic attacks as the culprit.

Because of these situations, many people with panic attacks end up with huge medical bills. They are told repeatedly that nothing is wrong, in spite of the various horrible symptoms that can arise with their condition. This can lead to depression and a complete loss of lifestyle. Many people end up avoiding anything that could potentially cause a panic attack. When that something is work, or going outside their home, they can become completely disabled.

If you suffer from panic attacks, please see a medical doctor. This column is written by a panic attack sufferer, and not a medical professional.

That’s why always keep a small brown paper bag in your bag wherever you go… very useful when having panic attacks

As a former sufferer of panic attacks, anxiety, and agoraphobia, I have to tell you that the things revealed in your post are very similar to how things started out with me. I made multiple visits to doctors and emergency rooms convinced that they could get to the bottom of things and that it must me a medical problem. I must say that your blog post is very good because any sufferer reading it can be reassured to know that they are not alone but also they can see how these things (symptoms) can be caused by anxiety and panic attacks and that they don’t need to feel silly for going to a medical professional for help. That is a great recommendation that this post made, by the way, because often a medical doctor can refer someone to a professional such as a psychologist that can really help with your panic attacks besides just focusing on medications.
