One of the most excruciating things you might experience is insect bites. Yes, you heard it right. Insect bites are far too distracting and painful (literally and figuratively) to experience. Just think about those ugly bumps you’ll have on your skin and not to mention frustratingly itchy as well. Nowadays, you will find tons of different treatments which you can use to soothe those unwanted insect bites. But sometimes you may realize that they might just not work out as greatly as you would have expected them to. The reason behind it is that these remedies for insect bites may work out great according to the insect responsible for the whole ordeal.

1. Mosquito Bites – This is probably the most common type of insect bite which you may encounter. And everybody at some point in their lives must have come across this type of insect bite. The most common type of solution being used to alleviate the bite and the itching is using calamine lotion. You can also use some rubbing alcohol to remove the itch and the swelling.
But aside from this method, you can also try any of these homemade remedies for insect bites:
- Lime juice diluted within water
- Salt solution or salt paste mixed with water
- A teaspoon of baking soda mixed in a glass of water
2. Wasp Bites – If there ever is a symbolism for the term “ouch” you might as well count wasp bites in. The stinging sensation is enough to drive you crazy with this one. However, treating wasp bites is not that easy because you might as well expect some wounds to follow and not just some swelling. Here’s a quick rundown of what you should do:
- Clean the bitten area with a mild soap and clean water.
- To help alleviate stinging, you can apply some meat tenderizer over the insect bite. You can use half a teaspoon then mix it with water. Apply the mixture on the bite for about thirty minutes.
- Aside from the meat tenderizer, you can also use ammonie to help relieve stinging.
3. Chigger Bites – Although this specific insect does not come that often, it’s quite disastrous to experience. As such, here are some helpful remedies which you can do to relieve this specific insect bite:
- Nail polish can be used to give off some quick way of relieving the stings.
- Bacon grease can also be used to quickly relieve the sting bites.
- Petroleum jelly (such as Vicks) can also be used to relieve the itching sensation.
- Listerine can also be rubbed over the affected area to soothe and clean out the bite to prevent other infections.
- A warm bath is also a proven and recommended way of not just relaxing the body but relaxing all those painful chigger bites as well.
