Common Causes of Hair Loss

Hair loss is a very common problem among both men and women. While most people assume that it is a problem that is more common among older people, it can actually affect people of all ages. There are many different factors which can contribute to this health problem. Here are some of the most common causes of hair loss.

Hair loss

A hereditary condition called pattern baldness is known to be one of the most common causes of hair loss. If you have a family member who is balding, then there is a good chance that this may be the reason for your own hair loss. The hair loss is generally seen the most on the top of the head, but can occur anywhere. Men with this condition often begin balding at a very early age. Generally, it even begins earlier than the age of 21.

Stress is known to be one of the main factors that contributes to hair loss. Certain situations may cause you to experience high levels of stress and, ultimately, may cause you to lose your hair. Chemotherapy is a good example of when the body goes through a lot of stress, and this is the reason that many cancer patients experience hair loss.

Improper hair care is also known to lead to hair loss. One of the most important things that you should know is that it is important to avoid brushing your hair while it is wet. Only comb hair during this time. Limit how often you use hot styling tools, such as flat and curling irons, on the hair. Using a moisturizing conditioner on the hair is ideal for keeping it hydrated.

Hormonal changes are known to be another one of the leading causes of hair loss. For women, pregnancy and menopause are both times when hormones change. Both of these are very common times to experience a loss of hair. Remember that there are many other causes of hormonal changes, such as certain medications, which may cause you to experience hair loss.

Hair is known to be indicative of overall health. Not exercising and improper nutrition are both factors which can lead to hair loss. A diet that is high in fruits and vegetables, foods that are rich in Omega-3, and eight 8 oz. glasses of water a day will help keep your hair as healthy as possible. Also remember that it is necessary to get proper amounts of daily vitamins and nutrients. Having a deficiency in certain types of nutrients can be one of the main factors that contributes to your problem with hair loss.

These are just some of the most common causes of hair loss. If you have begun to notice that your hair is falling out, it may be a good idea to visit a doctor. Remember that there are medications out there which can help slow down or reverse hair loss, such as Rogaine. However, it is important to begin using these medications immediately in order to ensure the most effective results.

Another reason for hair loss especially is the chlorine in the shower water…make SURE you get a filter on the showerhead, as the chlorine will not only DRY out your scalp, it also has poisonous gas in there (thats what chlorine can become in a hot shower, anyway) and that is unhealthy for the scalp. Also, lack of nutrition causes it also, which we are not taking in all the vitamins we should w/ such things as processed breads and junk food everywhere.

Great article!
