Anorexia - Causes and Symptoms

One of the toughest conditions which most women have to face is anorexia. This eating disorder is mostly identified to be occurring among females, usually during their adolescence until their early adulthood. Anorexia is not simply a physical illness because there are actually plenty of factors which cause the said disorder and most of these factors are psychologically triggered. In addition, anorexia is also often related with emotional stability which therefore makes it a more complicated type of disorder.

anorexia Anorexia takes some time before it can actually be observed. At some point it can be said that the disorder is quite tricky and can actually be mistaken for some other thing. Some people can think that a person who actually has anorexia is simply losing weight when in fact the weight loss is caused by a disorder already. Sometimes, anorexia is just being noted during its advanced stage. During this time anorexia will manifest itself obviously by the illogical fear of gaining weight and extreme thinness which leads to making the person look like bone and skin.

So what triggers anorexia? There are lots of different reasons why this actually happens. But for the most part, people who have been diagnosed with anorexia are those who have extreme cases of perfectionism. These people do not like what they see in front of the mirror, literally, that’s why they result to trying to control their weight onwards an extreme case. Perfectionists often become anorexic because food and weight are the only two things which they may feel that they have control of.

Aside from this reason, some anorexics also result to such a disorder from their emotional dents. Extreme emotions such as stress, anger, and depression can lead to anorexia. The people surrounding the person can also induce a feeling of keeping oneself in a particularly “thin” or “sexy” weight. When the person is surrounded by people with relatively great weight which is neither under nor overweight, that person may feel compelled to fit in. This is what usually happens in the case of anorexic adolescents. Teenage anorexia often happens because these kids feel a strong urge to fit in by looking physically acceptable according to the standards they think society recognizes and accepts.

Once anorexia persists, people affected with the disorder do not automatically refuse to eat. In some cases, binge eating also becomes apparent. With this process, the person who has anorexia may intake food just to satiate hunger but he or she will force himself to vomit so that the food eaten will be taken out of the body. This is being done by the person under the presumption that binging out what has been eaten will help prevent the addition of extra weight. In the long run, the person inflicted with anorexia will display apparent mood swings and may also faint from time to time due to malnutrition. People can also observe that the person inflicted with anorexia will become too conscious of his weight. Sometimes, he or she will also feel guilty about eating or the thought of it.
