All about Cesarean Delivery

Childbirth is one amazing experience. However, mothers do not get to experience this phenomenon in practically the same way. Due to biological constraints, natural birth may not be possible and because of this a cesarean delivery becomes imperative. During the early times women have almost always gave birth through a natural manner but these days, it seems that more and more women are undergoing cesarean delivery. Some mothers do it because it is the right thing to do, while some opt for it out of preference as they fear the pain behind going through natural child birth.

cesareanThere are actually lots of factors which eventually cause a cesarean delivery considering it was not pre-planned by the mother. The most common reason for such type of child birth method is because the baby is too big and would not fit the pelvic passageway out of the mother’s womb. Aside from these, a cesarean delivery may also be done because the baby is in a breech position wherein it cannot be conveniently removed from the mother’s womb through natural circumstances.

Another reason for a cesarean delivery might be that the baby is currently in a complicated situation and must be removed immediately from the mother’s womb. In this case, the baby is most probably going to spend some time in an incubator. Other reasons may be that there is vaginal disease on the mother’s part or that the extreme pain brought in that area is already becoming dangerous for the mother to continuously bear.

When it comes to doing the cesarean delivery, there are two different types of incision being done—the skin and the uterine. However, no abdominal muscles are being cut to facilitate either of these processes although the style of the cut can vary according to the actual circumstances. In addition to these, cesarean incisions are usually done right at the lower part of the abdomen and usually lay on the bikini line of the woman.

During the process of the cesarean delivery, only epidurals are being given to the mother and anesthesia is never given except for emergency and special cases. When the mother simply took an epidural, she will be awake during the entire process although no pain will be felt as the numbness becomes spread from the waist down. Because of this effect, both expectant parents can immediately see their baby upon the mother giving birth. Epidurals are also very safe and they do not produce unwanted side effects.

Mothers who have undergone a cesarean delivery can already recover from the entire process in as easy as four days. They can already move about fully just within four weeks from such type of delivery. Although some women might say that this takes more time than natural child birth does, at least a cesarean delivery spares the woman from post vaginal pains as well as torn vaginal tissues from natural childbirth. Labor pains are also minimal in a cesarean delivery as the baby is already taken out. However, the downside to a cesarean delivery is perhaps the wound that the surgery leaves.
