Alcoholism - Health Effects and Treatments

Alcoholism is never good in any given situation. It’s one of the perennial problems of the society as government tries to warn people about the effects. Communities are also helping out in treating persons addicted to alcohol.

Whatever the reason, alcoholism will always have a hazardous health effect on the person. Physically, excessive drinking of alcohol will lead you to certain medical problems. Alcohol is an intrusive concoction whose effect is not only drunkenness. Once taken to the body, alcohol will slowly burn through the liver and intestines. This is especially happening to those who drink non-stop without thinking of eating anything before the drinking activity. Without anything in their stomach, the strong alcohol content will affect the walls of the stomach. But even with food, the liver will become the number one target casualty of the person. Even though it will proceed to the stomach, components of alcohol will still end up in the liver. That is why alcoholics will always have a liver problem.

Psychologically, alcohols will also have concerns. Being drunk all the time, they will have to face everyday situation being confused. They might know nothing of the things they do since the state of drunkenness will always be there. If they are not drunk, they will still feel the effects of alcohol. Because of this, they will have problems concentrating on their daily task and job.

Alcoholics will also have concerns in addressing the financial problems they will face. Alcohol is not free and they have to spend their money mostly buying alcohol. They may not be able to pay their bills. Because they will not be able to do their jobs well, they will have to face termination from their present job.

But the greatest effect of alcoholism is the destruction of the relationship with family and friends. Personal relationship between two persons is slowly destroyed because the addiction doesn’t seem to stop.

Fortunately, there is a cure. It’s a long and tedious process, but the person will be treated. The first step to all these processes of course is personal admission of the person with alcoholism. Without that, everything will crumble as the person will be forced to do things. But once there is an admission, the process of healing can now start.

There are practically two types of programmers that you can consider. The first program deals with the local community. This is recommended for people who have a problem with alcohol that’s not really on a destructive level. He may cause some problems but it won’t affect the person physically. There are no medications required. All they need is someone to talk to and struggle together with to get over alcoholism.

On the other hand, if it’s already physically debilitating, it’s recommended that the person should undergo detoxification. They are mostly found in in-house rehabilitation. The program should last at least three days. All the alcohol in the body will be removed and the person is placed on a program to be aware of the effects of alcoholism.

So before you continue your drinking, always remember it’s effects to you and to your family.
