In the world of sports video games nothing is more important than details. For the true sports gamer, statistics, accurate rosters, and true gameplay are the primary things that are necessary for a great sports video game. Over the years, there have been a few of these games that have stretched the barriers, and sent the sports world of video games to new levels. Here are the greatest sports video games of all time:
1. Punch Out - While boxing is not among the most storied franchises in video game history, Punch Out makes the list for one reason. Addictive, fun, and challenging gameplay for a video game. This game is legendary in sports circles simply because it was so fun to play. Though the realism detail of Punch Out was nonexistent, the game was so fun that you did not care. This makes the list because it was one of the first sports video games that was truly fun to play.
2. MLB The Show - This game took the baseball video game industry by storm and has established itself as the game for baseball enthusiasts. No baseball game that I have played has been more fun to play, while at the same time giving you the deep, detailed stats and visuals of MLB The Show.
3. The Madden Franchise - For most people, Madden is the be all in sports video games. The game always is red hot the second it hits the shelves each year, and the roster depth, details, gameplay, and innovations each year keep getting better and better. No sports video games are any better for the football fan, and I doubt anybody ever will beat it.
4. NBA Live - Another long running franchise, NBA Live is the standard in basketball games. The franchise has always been on the cutting edge of sports video games, and is a hell of a lot of fun to play as well.
5. The Fight Night Franchise - What Punch Out began, Fight Night is in the process of finishing and beating. The game is absolutely hilarious to play, and tons of fun. Without a doubt, the game is top shelf entertainment for the sports video enthusiast.
6. WWE Smackdown VS Raw - Though not technically sports, professional wrestling is still hugely popular and makes for a very fun video game. This game makes most of the past wrestling video games pale in comparison. The best wrestling video game of all time to be sure!
