The new Punch Out game for the Ninetendo Wii has finally come out and everybody seems to be really psyched about it. A whole generation of gamers grew up with the original Mike Tyson’s Punch Out and the Super Punch Out that came out on SNES. The Super Punch Out on SNES is largely considered to be one of the greatest games of all time, so it was no surprise that this game was going to be a huge hit. The game itself is thought to be pretty awesome and very similar in nature and game play to the old model.
After all these years of waiting, Ninetendo Wii has finally come out with the new Punch Out. The coolest thing about this game is the characters. Glass Joe, Bald Bull, and the gang are all back, and the early reviews for the game have been glowing. You can actually play the game with the controller or the motion controls. Both would seem to have their advantages.
With the motion controls, I can envision a game that would give even the most in shape guys a workout. The constant punching and moving that you have to do in Punch Out is sure to be a challenge. The early returns say that the responsiveness is pretty good on the Punch Out game for Wii, which is a nice change from some other Wii boxing games.
The other Wii boxing games did not seem responsive at all to the motion controls, and I often find myself throwing mystery punches and dodging at times that I did not dodge. I have not been overly impressed so far with the boxing games for Wii. Fortunately, the Punch Out for Wii seems to have worked out those issues to a large degree. Every review I have read has said the responsiveness is outstanding. That is really good news.
There are 13 boxers slated for this version of Punch Out, but the game play is much longer than that. If you beat them all and become champion then they will come back and challenge you for the belt with a brand new set of skills and moves. This allows for extended game play beyond the life of the original.
What I am truly looking forward to is the old school feeling of nostalgia that seems to permeate throughout this game. Much of the old games are still around for the new, and the Wii was smart to include the old characters and nuances that made the original console game such a huge hit way back when. Hopefully the game play will be as good as advertised, and the Punch Out game for Wii will be a huge hit.
