When Legends of Wrestlemania was announced virtually every wrestling video game fan immediately got excited about it. Fans of the Smackdown Vs Raw video games surely had a similar game in mind, except with a roster loaded with all the nostalgic legends from the past couple of decades. While Legends of Wrestlemania delivers on the roster, it falls terribly flat on the gameplay. There is no comparison as far as gameplay and entertainment between Smackdown Vs Raw and Legends of Wrestlemania.

The best thing about Legends of Wrestlemania is easily the trip down memory lane. The game is loaded with videos from previous Wrestlemanias, and the roster is loaded with tons of great wrestling legends and managers. The game is very simplistic as far as controls which makes for a beginner game really. The moves are repetitive, and the majority of the matches are exercises in button pushing. (who can hit the prompted button quickest type game)
While the Legends of Wrestlemania game is a great idea, they really missed the boat on this one. Advanced wrestling gamers will quickly tire of the gameplay, and the matches all feel the same at their core. Without the video montages, the game would be excruciatingly dull to the advanced wrestling gamer. Once the polish is off the roster penny, Legends of Wrestlemania quickly becomes that game that sits on the bottom of your game pile.
As I mentioned before the big draw is the roster of wreslers that is among the best seen in any wrestling game ever. They do a wonderful job of capturing the basics of each character though they did kind of go over the top with the wrestler builds. Still, seeing the Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan, and other great WWE Legends hit the mat one more time is a pretty good thrill. If ever a game was made for a weekend rental, it is Legends of Wrestlemania. Over the course of a single weekend, you could pretty much do everything you want to do in the video game, and be bored with it by then.
Hopefully someday they will put Smackdown Vs Raw’s gaming model and the Legends of Wrestlemania roster together. Then they would have a wonderful wrestling video game that everyone would love. Now that would be a game that would sell out in a hot second, faster than a Shawn Michaels superkick to the head. As for Legends of Wrestlemania as it stands? It needs to Rest In Peace. A very disappointing release.
