Not many games get me amped up. This is especially true of the online games normally found on Pogo.com, Worldwinner.com, and so on. Pogo.com, however, has put out an online version of the classic board game Monopoly that is just too fun to ignore. Monopoly on Pogo is just like the game on the board, except the properties are world wide and span the globe. This adds a bit of flair and change to the classic set up without veering from what makes Monopoly fun in the first place.
The best part about this free online game is the fact that we do not have to keep up with finances. It does everything for you up to and including mortgages, buying and selling houses and motels, and even your own profit and loss. This was the lazy part of me embracing the technology that keeps me from having to count out those little bills that came with the board game. I hated that part on the board game.
The pace of the game is good, and the action is based solely around how much money you can earn through shrewd buying and selling. The game is remarkably smart in knowing when to accept your offers and knowing when to say no. It is an actual challenge to beat the game regularly as you must get a bit of luck along with your shrewd Monopoly buying and selling.
The player pieces are animated and move around the board automatically in response to your dice roll. When you land on any of the properties, you get the option of buying it or taking it to auction. Also, if you run low on cash, you can mortgage your properties to raise the funds. Go to jail, park place, and passing go for your bonus money are all there as well. Community Chest and that fancy question mark are on the board as well, and many of the things that you get from them are updated to fit the world stage the game is changed to for the properties.
All in all, it is Monopoly on steroids and automatic. It is a wonderful way to spend an hour or two, and you will never play the same game twice. That is the fun of the game is the fact that you can play it over and over without feeling cheated.
