WWE Summerslam Might Be The Crown Jewel This Year

With WWE Summerslam only a couple of weeks away, it is shaping up to be a very interesting pay per view. The best thing about Summerslam is that they usually have some huge star make their return to the ring. This year, it is known going in that Degeneration X will return in some form, to include Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Who else could make an appearance? Undertaker, Flair, Steamboat Jr., and even some crazy rumors have been flying around that Sting could inexplicably make an entrance. One thing about Vince and company is that you never know. Here is a look at the matches on tap so far:

Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler

This match is actually a rematch, but it has the chance to steal the show. Ziggler is annoying but that is what he is supposed to be as a heel. That makes this match a great one alone, as you really want to see Mysterio take him out. The truth is, many want to see Ziggler win so that the younger generation will begin to get a push. I am among that group. Ziggler is a talented in ring performer that has future champion written all over him. Mysterio is a great person to get him over in a big way.

World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk

This feud is the feud of the year in the WWE if you ask me. Punk is a way better heel than he ever was a face. He makes you hate him in spite of yourself, and that makes for fantastic feuds. This is especially true with a huge star like Hardy, who has found himself growing steadily in popularity for months now. Hardy brings the excitement to the ring every time, and you get a strong performance from Punk as well. This will be a great one as it is slated to be a tables, ladders and chairs match.

WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. John Cena

Randy Orton is ready to take the next step as a champion, but will the WWE let him? A clean win over Cena is exactly what should happen, but my gut says that the WWE will put the strap on Cena. (that and the fact that Cena never loses at a pay per view) It actually makes you wonder if it is a clause in Cena’s contract or something. Orton needs a clean win without interference over a huge star, and then he can take the step to legend status as WWE Champion. It will be fun to see what happens.

Cryme Tyme vs. Unified Tag Champions Chris Jericho & Big Show

This pairing of Big Show and Jericho is a hoot, and watching the two of them together is like watching Mutt and Jeff. They play off one another well, and Cryme Tyme is a good match up for them. No way will they take the belts, but they should be fun to watch against these two. What I can not wait for is for Edge to return and go after Jericho as a face. That will be fun to see.

D-Generation X vs. The Legacy

This one I am not so sure about. I do not like the way they brought X back together at all. To have HHH go hunting for an unwilling Shawn Michaels seems rather silly, and then to have them come back afterwards seems like a big joke. I would have brought him back blind as a Mystery partner, with no hints or anything. That would have led to a huge anticipation at Summer Slam. This match also could feature a surprise return of any number of former DXers. We shall see.
