There was one guest in particular that did not show up to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ wedding this past weekend that has got everyone buzzing – John Travolta. Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston are well-known Scientologists and friends of Cruise and their absence from the world’s most famous Scientologist’s wedding is more than odd.
Travolta and his wife were amongst the first to see baby Suri, and several reports had also been made that they were taking Cruise and various guests to Italy in their private jet. So, why wasn’t Travolta and his wife, close friends of Tom and Katie, at the wedding?
Current speculation is that Travolta’s absence from the wedding may be a result of TomKat’s failure to invite Oprah Winfrey to the wedding. In snubbing Oprah, who happens to be one of Travolta’s best friends, he may have also snubbed Travolta himself. Oprah and Travolta have a long history together as friends. She calls him her “soul mate” and threw him his 50th birthday party. Also noticeably absent from the ceremonies was Kirstie Alley, another Scientologist and one of Oprah’s good friends.
Other “minor” celebrity Scientologists in attendance included Leah Remini and Jenna Elfman. Cruise’s best man was David Miscavige, the Head of the Church of Scientology. Considering that the wedding was such a Scientology centered event, Travolta’s absence is very peculiar.
Travolta’s representatives were contacted, however they declined to give a revealing comment about the incident, simply stating that that they “weren’t privy to the invite list,” whatever that is supposed to mean. His reps went on to say that they would not be able to get in touch with Travolta until after the holiday.
