Shark attack movies are just not that common in today’s cinema. The horror genre is full of them, but they hardly qualify as actual shark attack movies. The vast majority of these are about humongous monster sharks that are somehow appearing from the depths to eat us. While these shark attack movies make for good Saturday late night cinema when you are too tired to care about plot or acting, they are not even real considerations for a top shark attack movie list. Here are the top four real shark attack movies of all time. (There are only four that I would even consider, personally)

1. Jaws - Without a doubt, Jaws is the absolute pinnacle of the shark attack genre. The camera angles, shark perspective, and haunting music alone are enough to put this film on top. Add to those groundbreaking aspects the fantastic acting, genuine suspense, awesome story, and Quint, and you have a shark attack movie that is much more than it seems. This movie tops many best movie lists and not only in the horror genre. Anybody could sit down and enjoy Jaws. Shark attack movies do not get any better than this, and Jaws will forever sit atop this list.
2. Open Water - While not a traditional movie, this is one film that will haunt you for a very long time. This is especially true if you have ever been diving, or out on the open sea. This movie is done in almost a documentary type style, and is very suspenseful from start to finish. Who can not relate to the fear of being left alone out in the middle of the ocean…with no boat?
3. Jaws II - While Jaws II began to really stretch the limits of reality as far as the shark goes, it is still based enough in reality that you can pretend that you are watching a genuine shark attack movie. The suspense is there once again, and the shark is a bit improved from the first Jaws. It is not as good as the first one, but it surely is near the top of the shark attack movies that are available. Top notch fun here!
4. Deep Blue Sea - I realize that real mako sharks do not do the things that these sharks do, and that the movie is far from realistic. That said, the movie is just too entertaining to ignore from this list. The scene with Samuel L. Jackson is an absolute classic scene that nobody will forget if they see it. It both shocked and scared the heck out of everyone in the theater as nobody saw it coming. That is how to do it, right there. Especially where shark attacks are concerned.
People everywhere will always fear shark attacks. As long as their is fear, then movie makers will continue to make shark attack movies. Hopefully, we can add some other top notch shark attack movies to this list in the future.
