The Top Five Zombie Movies Of All Time

Zombie movies have been around about as long as the horror movie, and they are popular regardless of the generation. Something about the un-dead, half-dead, and soon to be dead zombies just catch our collective eyes as a society, regardless of how distasteful eating brains might seem. Some popcorn, a great date on your arm, and a wonderful zombie movie is almost certain to get some snuggle time even if it is out of fear. Here are the top five zombie movies of all time: (Let the arguments commence)

Zombie Movie Number Five – Shaun of the Dead

This impressive little UK version of the modern day zombie flick is something that very few zombie movies are; funny and scary at the same time. The movie is about a guy named Shaun (of course) that has a crappy day and decides to turn it all around by bringing back his ex girlfriend. Instead, he finds himself in a town full of zombies that want him and everyone else just like them….Dead….ish. The movie is quick paced and hilarious in parts, though not for the weak stomached in the crowd.

Zombie Movie Number Four - 28 Days Later

This zombie flick is a bit of a misnomer as it is not actually zombies. They instead are infected with a deadly virus that makes them act like zombies. After seeing this scary movie, you will understand exactly why it qualifies for this list. Even the music is haunting throughout. The movie is certainly not for the weak hearted or for anyone that is prone to passing out. Jolts, scares, and gore everywhere make this a great zombie flick.

Zombie Movie Number Three - The Evil Dead

If George Romero is the Godfather of zombie movies, then Sam Raimi has to be considered his top hit man. Raimi proves that scary does not have to be overly gory with this classic flick about five pals that go to a cabin in the woods and unleash hell on Earth. When all is said and done, only one of the five remains as a non-zombie and he must survive the onslaught all alone against the ultimate evil. This movie is scary from start to finish, and is brilliantly filmed in a grainy, stylish manner that is perfect for the story.

Zombie Movie Number Two – Night of the Living Dead

Imagine for one moment that you and a group of people are locked in a secluded farmhouse that is surrounded by zombies. Any one of the people around you could be infected, and the zombies are slowly breaking their way in. This is the vision that George Romero created way back in 1968 that started the entire modern day zombie movie revolution. Without a doubt, the movie is still scary to this day, and though it has been colorized, the original black and white is still better. What is truly amazing is that Romero made this film at a time when it was very risky to do so. What a home run he hit with this classic. Though it is right at the top of the best zombie movies of all time, it is not at the very top. That spot is reserved for….

Zombie Movie Number One - Dawn of the Dead (1978 )

One decade after making zombie and movie history with Return of the Living Dead, Romero came back with the top zombie movie of all time. He took all the things that were great with the original, and the fixed those things that were more current such as visuals, graphics, gore, and so on. The general principle remained largely the same, but the scenery shifted from an old farmhouse to a secluded mall. This movie is absolutely impossible to watch without jumping out of your skin several times. Without a doubt, it is the best zombie movie of all time.
