In recent years, the superhero movie has climbed to the center of the stage for Hollywood. Iron Man, Batman, Spiderman, the X-Men, Wolverine, Superman, and even the Incredible Hulk among many others have all gotten the Hollywood movie treatment to the delight of comic fans everywhere. Thanks to these movies, many people who were not originally comic fans have become more aware of the changes in comics. No longer are comic books only for pre-teen boys and girls. Today’s comics are enjoyed by everyone. With Hollywood opening their arms to the superheros of the world, there are a number of them that I would love to see made into a movie. This list represents the top five superhero movies that should be made according to this comic fan.
Thor - Thor is easily one of those characters that could quickly become a household name. To fans of Marvel comics, he already is. Thor is a norse god that fights evil with a supernatural hammer. This comic is loaded with characters that could make the legend come to life rather easily. Thor’s brother Loki would be the ideal villain for a Hollywood blockbuster, and the graphics that could be brought to bear would be incredible. Imagine Gods coming to Earth to do battle as a backdrop for this film, and you will see how this could be a blockbuster of epic proportions.
Green Lantern - One of DC Comics most beloved comic book superheros is long overdue for the Hollywood treatment. Why? Primarily because of the potential. The Lantern uses a magic ring for his powers that can create anything that he can imagine. Think about that for a minute in the hands of a Hollywood director. Anything he can imagine? Green Lantern would be simply incredible.
Green Arrow - The biggest thing about the Green Arrow is that he is not overly tough to imagine. He is an everyman that has incredible archery skills. Think Robin Hood with a drinking problem. The character is a very interesting one, and the storyline could be very believable. It could also star the Black Canary as a side character and love interest. (she has always been cute on the comics pages) Maybe they could talk Salma Hayek into the costume?
Deadpool - This is the first villain on the scene, but he is a very good one. The guy is an expert in hand to hand combat, has a great costume, and is capable of regenerating or healing much like that popular guy that is all over Hollywood screens right now. (wolverine) Deadpool would make a very interesting movie and it could introduce the final movie on my list….
X-Factor - How this group of mutants has not gotten a movie yet and the X-Men have several is beyond me. The characters are interesting, the story is excellent of how they came to be, and the buzz would be off the charts. Many former X-Men such as Havoc, Polaris and others have all been members of X-Factor and the movie could certainly be spun off of the X-Men storyline. It also ties in with one of the most popular comic book characters of all time… Cable.
Any one of these comic book superheroes could be wonderful additions to the Hollywood superhero movie genre. Hopefully, somebody will see this list and get started. Thor has been rumored to be on the way forever, but I wonder if it will ever come to pass. Hopefully, we will see these on the silver screen sometime soon.
