The Top Five Scary Scenes In Horror Movies

Scary movies are at their best when they make us jump out of our seats and scream. This does not happen very often, but occasionally you come across a horror movie scene that you simply can not forget. These movie scenes are etched in our memory and will forever be a part of us. What are the best horror movie scary scenes in entertainment history? Let’s take a look at my top five:

5. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original) - The original chainsaw massacre had a number of what I would call scary moments but the one that stands out to me was when the character Kirk is killed with the sledgehammer by Leatherface. When he slings open that steel door, and drags Kirk inside, it scares the heck out of me every time.

4. The Devil’s Rejects - While I am not a huge fan of Rob Zombie, I do find this movie to contain one of the scariest moments in horror flicks. When the wife gets her husband’s face put on by Otis and she runs outside, I did not see the huge truck coming. That moment is sickeningly shocking and you can never forget it.

3. Halloween - The scene where Laurie is running across the lawn after briefly escaping Michael Myers and she gets to the front door which is locked. She can not find the keys and has to wait on the little boy to open the door while Myers slowly walks across the lawn towards her is insanely spooky!

2. Jaws - The opening scene of Jaws will always be etched in your memory once you have seen it. The shark attack on the girl as she swims at night is both violent, realistic, and chilling to the bone for any horror fan. Even the television version of this scene is chilling.

1. Friday the 13th - While the largest majority of the movie is not all that scary, but rather violent, it is the ending scene that scares the wits out of me every single time. It is also largely non-violent, which is ironic when you think about it. The scene is where the final survivor is sitting out in the canoe on the lake the morning after killing Jason’s mom. She wakes up in the canoe, and sees the police on the shoreline. Soft music plays and the safety is all around…until… Suddenly, Jason Voorhees makes his onscreen debut as he swoops up behind her out of the water and pulls her in!

While you may not agree with my choices, that is the beauty of scary movies. No two people seem to feel the same way about scary movies. These are the spookiest movie scenes in my opinion, but feel free to leave your favorites in the comments below!
