The top five movies to make you cry is an exercise in emotions. You have to think back to all the various movies that forced you to shed a tear. To make the top five, it had to make you actually bawl your eyes out. Tear jerkers are always a love/hate type of thing with movie goers. You either love them or hate them, and it usually runs down gender lines. Most gals love them and most guys hate them. The top five movies transcend these lines, however, and include movies that we all love either secretly (guys) or openly. (gals)
The Notebook - The Notebook is a movie that has enough of everything to truly bring anyone into the storyline. There is love, action, romance, comedy, and pretty much everything else in the movie. It is a tale of love, and despair all set in the perfect backdrop for pulling out some tears. Watch this movie when you feel like a good cry, and you will not be disappointed.
Titanic - This is the ultimate crying movie for many people because it is simply loaded with storylines. The basic premise is the sinking of the Titanic and a forbidden love story between a high society rich gal and a drifter that gambles his way onto the tragic ship. The movie is absolutely an epic of all time, and not just in the tear jerker category. I only wish I had seen it on the big screen.
Steel Magnolias - This is a movie that completely caught me off guard. I was writing one night when my wife was watching it in the background. What drew me off the computer and onto the couch was the comedy in the movie. Their are parts of this movie that will make you laugh your tail off. The problem is, it also sucks you into the story and pops you in the gut when you least expect it. Easily this is one top tear jerker that I will not be watching again in public, being a guy and all.
What Dreams May Come - This movie is a tear jerker that pulls the tears from a very deep, primitive place in our souls. Who among us has not wondered about death, Heaven, the afterlife, and loved ones that have gone before us? This movie takes you on that ride in a very sweeping and powerful way. Do not watch this movie without a huge box of Kleenex. The movie is that powerful.
Bambi - Bambi was the first movie that ever made me cry, and so it has to make the list. Anyone that can sit through Bambi without shedding a tear is somebody that seriously needs a visit with the local Shrink. This movie is the reason that I never became a hunter, and is one Disney movie that I dread my daughters seeing for the first time. I am not sure how I will explain that scene and make any sense at all.
