The Top Five Jim Carrey Comedy Movies Of All Time

Jim Carrey is among the most celebrated comedic actors of all time, and his movies are pretty much golden at the box office. It was not always that way for the enigmatic Carrey, but the days of playing the comedy clubs are long over. The sheer volume of Jim Carrey’s work is stunning when you look at it. Not so much in the number of movies, but because of the quality of the comedies. Trying to narrow the top five down was not an easy task, but here are the top five comedy movies Jim Carrey has ever starred in according to me:

5. Me, Myself, and Irene - This movie was one that took a little time to get going, but once it does it really bowls you over. The comedic wit of Carrey in this film is simply genius. The whole premise of a single white man raising black children and being clueless as to the fact that they are not his is hilarious. This movie gets better each time I watch it.

4. Ace Ventura - Pet Detective (1 and 2) - Both of these movies are among the many favorites I have for Carrey and I really put them in the same category together. Both flicks show off Carrey’s famous physical comedy and both are insanely funny. Carrey made a name for himself quickly with the release of this legendary comedy.

3. The Mask - Once again, the physical comedy of Carrey is on full display and is only aided by the incredible animation and special effects. The Mask has more punchlines than virtually any movie known to man, and is sure to entertain people for generations to come. I can only imagine that this movie will still be very funny twenty years from now.

2. Bruce Almighty - This movie nearly topped the list for me as it also stars the beautiful Jennifer Aniston. The real stars of the movie are Carrey and fellow funny man Steve Carell. The scene in which Carrey forces Carell to babble and make noises while delivering the evening news is one of the funniest scenes in the history of movies. Far from being a one scene wonder, Bruce Almighty is hilarious throughout.

1. Dumb and Dumber - I am sure to get some flack over putting this movie in the number one position, but for sheer laughs it is firmly at the top of my list. I absolutely love slapstick comedy, and the dumber the better. Dumb and dumber is about as silly as it gets, and I absolutely loved every minute. I find Carrey to be at his best when he makes fun of himself, and this is the perfect movie for that platform.

While Jim Carrey is not the perfect leading man in Hollywood, he is right near the top of actors that I would want if I am crafting a comic hit. Nobody does physical comedy quite like him in our generation, and he is sure to go down as one of the best ever.
