During the history of Rock and Roll we have had more niches and genres pop up than one could possibly count, and yet, one particular niche seems to hang on regardless of anything else going on around it. No matter how many times it appears dead and buried, some new generation comes along and learns to love it all over again. The genre known as hair bands has been rocking us for decades, and will continue to do so for years to come. Though the hair and outfits may look silly, the music keeps us coming back for more year after year. Here are the top five hair bands of all time:

5. Motley Crue - Motley Crue certainly was one of the bands that your mom loved to hate because of the lyrics, but that you could not help but to listen to. Dr. Feelgood, Shout At The Devil, and countless other hits kept these guys on the top of the hair band world for a time. Even today Motley Crue fans still rock to the music and think about the old days.
4. Journey - Without a doubt, Journey was the “preppy” hair band of the eighties. They were the hair band that all the different cliques could love equally. Mainstream music channels loved them, as well as the hair band rockers. With the best vocals of any music group of their time, Journey rode a number of power ballads such as “Faithfully” to the hair band hall of fame.
3. Van Halen - Van Halen has been rocking hair band lovers for a very long time, but during the eighties, no band was hotter than David Lee Roth and Van Halen. They became white hot with the singles, “Jump” and “Panama” and then continued on with hit after hit for years. Van Halen is forever synonomous with the greatest hair bands of all time, and some would argue they are higher on the list.
2. Guns n Roses - Guns n Roses got hotter than any other band in the world seemingly overnight. They released Appetite for Destruction and then proceeded to watch virtually every song on the album go to the charts and beyond. Gun n Roses were not my favorite hair band, but I respect the incredible popularity they had and can not help but to concede that they were a solid pick at number two. Guns n Roses still has a huge following around the world.
1. Def Leppard - Perhaps no other hair band is more synonomous with the genre than Def Leppard. You could not listen to any station in the Country without hearing one of their songs every single song set, and they had the magic touch when it came to mixing power ballads with hard driving rock and roll. Pour Some Sugar on Me was so popular at one time, that I remember switching the station and the song being played at the same time on six different radio stations. To this day, Def Leppard reigns as the king of the hair bands of rock and roll. (at least on my list)
