There is little in the world that can take us away from our everyday troubles quite like a television show. Some television shows take us to another place entirely, and allow us to live within their lives on screen. It is rare, but some shows make us feel like part of the family. These shows move into another realm of television and become a part of the fabric of our society. Here are the top comedy television shows ever:

Seinfeld - Some people love it and some people hate it - but it is never ignored. The brilliance of the writing on this show has been applauded, and it was well deserved. Every show was woven into a self contained storyline, and the result was brilliant television.
Friends - Friends is one of those shows that is simply impossible to watch without laughing at some point. Every single episode has a classic moment, and the stars seem to enjoy the scripts as much as we enjoy watching them. Looking back at some of the original episodes is a real treat, as some of the best moments came early. The show is simply a part of American television history, and may well be the best of the best.
Cheers - This is yet another show that you could not possibly watch without a chuckle. The exploits of Sam Malone, Norm and the always hilarious Cliff were must see television for years. Even now, the episodes are still top shelf. If you want a funny weekend of television, go and get the early episodes and have a marathon.
All in the Family - This show was not only funny, it was groundbreaking. Archie Bunker did something that no other actor could ever do - make bigotry a template for humor and social change. His gradual change over was something to see, and All in the Family broke new ground in television history.
Saturday Night Live - No list of funny television shows could possibly be complete without this classic. SNL has always been among the funniest things we could watch on television. Lately, the show has been a bit on the dark side, but the show has always cycled through these lulls.
SCTV - See SNL above.
I Love Lucy - Classic television was built around this sitcom, and Lucy was the funniest woman to ever grace our television screens. This was innocent, yet hilarious.
Happy Days - Growing up in the seventies and eighties meant that you had to see Happy Days. The show was absolutely a must see, and the comedy was very clean. I miss Happy Days and wish it was back on television in prime time.
Andy Griffith - See Happy Days above.
This is by far not a comprehensive list. It is the best of the best in my opinion. Feel free to leave your favorites down below in the comments.
