So You Think You Can Dance is actually American Idol for the dancers of the world. This show has gained a huge following throughout the United States, and is fast becoming a top rated show for Fox television. Much like American Idol before it, So You Think You Can Dance is growing a little bit more each year. While not having the explosive success that Idol did as quickly, the show is still gaining more and more steam each season.
The premise of the show is very familiar. They start out by touring the nation looking for the best dancers in the world. The audition episodes are popular not only for the fantastic auditions, but also for the rather hilarious bad ones. Sounds familiar does it not? As the people audition, they are given tickets to Hollywood if they cut the mustard. If not, then they are excused to come back another year.
So You Think You Can Dance sounds like a cheap knockoff copycat of American Idol but it is far from it. Though the format is very similar, the show is quite different. Once you get to Hollywood and the season begins in earnest, the dancers are paired up into teams of boy and girl. These partners then have to weather the various styles of dance as a team, until one or both are eliminated. Ultimately, it comes down to each man for themselves, and the finale is great fun. The differences in the shows are not just about the music and the dance.
So You Think You Can Dance is one of the most entertaining reality television shows around, and many people like it even better than powerhouse Idol. The dancing is incredible and the undeniable talent that comes from the show verifies it’s credibility. This season of So You Think You Can Dance is one of the more exciting ones in recent years, as America is finally coming around to the idea.
