Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s Twins Arrive

In April of 2009, Sex in the City star Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick announced that they were having twin children with the help of a surrogate mother. Since then, Parker and Broderick’s surrogate mother has made media headlines quite a few times. The surrogate mother received many threats, harassment, and there was even a plot to allegedly break into her home. Matthew Broderick was infuriated over this happening, while Sarah Jessica Parker expressed that she was very worried about the health of their surrogate mother and their children being delivered safely.

According to People News, the couple announced on June 23rd that their twin daughters have arrived safely into the world. Marion Loretta Elwell Broderick weighed in at 5 lbs 11 oz., while Tabitha Hodge Broderick weighed 6 lbs. The twins were born on June 22nd in Ohio. Parker and Broderick said, “The babies are doing beautifully and the entire family is over the moon” (People).

Celebrity baby names are often long awaited. They say a lot about the couple’s tastes, and may hold other significant meanings. People News reports that the names “Elwell” and “Hodge” are both family names on Sarah Jessica Parker’s side. Many may have been expecting baby names that were somewhat more unusual from this celebrity couple, but the names that they gave their twin daughters are fairly normal in comparison to many of the other celebrity baby names, such as Gwyneth Paltrow’s Apple and Nicole Richie’s Harlow Winter Kate.

The twins are not the couple’s first children. In addition to Marion and Tabitha, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick have one other child. Their son, James Wilkie, is six years old. He was not conceived with the help of a surrogate mother. Sarah Jessica Parker stated in previous interviews that James was very excited about the twins.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick admitted that the reason that they chose to use a surrogate is because they were unable to have successful pregnancies since the birth of their first son. They are not the first couple in Hollywood to choose to use a surrogate mother. Some other celebrity babies that have come into the world with the help of a surrogate include those of Robert De Niro, Dennis Quaid, Angela Basset, and Marissa Winokur.

Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker also join a long list of celebrity parents who have twin children. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and husband Danny, Puff Daddy and Kim Porter, Marcia Cross and husband Tom, Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony, and Patrick Dempsey and wife Jillian are just some of the many couples in Hollywood who are currently parents to twin children.

In other celebrity baby news, movie star Matthew McConaughey announced on Father’s Day that he and Camilia Alves are expecting a second baby. Their first son, Levi, is eleven months old.
