As he was being attacked by fans, Robert Pattinson ran across the street in New York City and was hit by a taxicab, according to People News. Sources say that this is not the first time that Robert Pattinson has been chased around by fans. In fact, it seems as though they have been following him anywhere that he goes while he has been filming his new movie, Remember Me.
Luckily, the accident was only a minor one and no one was seriously harmed. The taxicab only hit Robert Pattinson in the hip, and he was able to walk away from the scene. There was no need for him to be rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Of course, this is not at all surprising. The Twilight movie series has had girls and women of all ages going bonkers over Pattinson. With the encouragement of Myspace quizzes and trivia such as “What do you taste like to Edward Cullen” and graphic websites which allow you to replace Kristen Stewart’s head with your own so that you will be photographed in Robert Pattinson’s arms, internet users are able to obsess about the actor. Is this really healthy, however?
Robert Pattinson’s accident brings light to a very important issue: celebrity safety. There is no doubt that Robert Pattinson is probably not the first actor who has been in an accident due to crazed fans. It is unlikely that he will be the last either. Pattinson was only fortunate enough to not be hurt. When fans want to get near a celebrity, they will do everything in their power to try - even if it means putting that celebrity in danger.
This is not even to mention the type of accidents which can occur when the paparazzi gets involved. Take a look at what happened to Princess Diana. Let’s also not forget the multiple car accidents which Britney Spears has experienced as a result of Paparazzi.
In order to help prevent problems with fans for himself in the future, People reports that Robert Pattinson has hired additional bodyguards. Now, he has his own bodyguards, as well as the ones which have been provided to him by Summit Entertainment.
Although Pattinson finds it unusual that people stand outside to wait for him all day as he is filming, he does appreciate the fan base that he has accumulated. He appreciates their support. We can only hope that Pattinson’s fans appreciate him enough to prevent causing any future injuries or accidents. It can be hard to forget that Robert Pattinson is not in character of Edward Cullen at all times. Unlike the Twilight character, he does not have magical powers. It is important to remember that he is only human.
