Remembering Farrah - One Man’s Memory

It is still hard to believe that the great Farrah Fawcett has passed away. She always seemed like the youngest, smartest, and brightest of the Hollywood movie stars. It was hard to imagine her being sick, much less passing away. Farrah was one of the first women to draw my attention on television. Was it because she was beautiful? Of course. It was a bit deeper than that for me, however. Farrah was the late seventies in a gorgeous package. She epitomized Hollywood for me and my friends much like the screen legends of yesteryear did for their fans.

When I think of other actresses who died young, I think of Monroe, Harlow, and many others. None of them affect me the way that Farrah has. Why? Because she was of my era, and she had the same type of magnetism. Farrah was everything back then.

When I think of Farrah, of course I think of her beauty. The thing is I do not only think of her beauty. I think of Disco, Three’s Company, my parent’s divorce, Kiss, the Six Million Dollar Man, Happy Days, Saturday Morning Cartoons, and the list could go on forever. She was an Icon of a generation that transcended television and movies. Farrah was my past, and my childhood.

The feelings that come to mind are all good ones. I am thankful for the memories to be sure. Farrah was certainly a great woman to have as an icon. She showed that her talents and beauty were far surpassed by her courage and her bravery. Fighting cancer takes a special type of bravery. She had no choice but to fight or give up, but making the choice to fight is not easy. Farrah fought bravely and with the same tenacity that you would expect from someone of her character.

In some ways, Farrah’s passing was a relief for her loved ones. Nobody wants to say goodbye to their loved ones. Nobody wants to see their loved ones suffer either though. Farrah is in a place that we all will be eventually. She is no longer suffering and can now rest in peace. Still, her legacy goes on, and I for one will never forget her. She was much more to this world than a pretty face.

She was someone that defined an era, and did it with grace and style. She was a fighter. But most of all….

She was an Angel. We will miss you Farrah!
