Monica Hansen, who is a model that works for Maxim magazine, has recently won a lawsuit. There was a rumor that was going on quite some time ago that the model was trying to sue Maxim or another magazine that she has worked for in the past. This is not at all the truth about her lawsuit. Monica Hansen has actually sued a plastic surgeon. The reason that she sued him was also not due to a botched surgery. It was over pictures - and not the type that Monica Hansen generally gets paid to take.
According to TMZ.com, “Monica Hansen sued a plastic surgeon because he posted pictures on his website to promote his work.” The pictures were not used with Monica Hansen’s permission. He simply posted the pictures to his website, the way that most plastic surgeons do to show the portfolios of what they have done. You have probably seen “before” and “after” photos that were posted by plastic surgeons to represent their work. This is what the doctor did, but without the before photos.
The plastic surgeon that Monica Hansen sued is Dr. Leonard M. Hochstein. Hansen felt that it was unfair of the doctor to be using pictures of her breasts to increase his business and overall exposure without being given her consent to do so. The model wanted to be compensated for the ethical breach that she felt the plastic surgeon made by posting these pictures.
The Maxim model has been in the process of trying to sue this doctor for quite some time now. In fact, she originally began the lawsuit in the beginning of 2009. It has taken this long for the case to go to court and for a decision to be made. Monica Hansen did win this case. She was awarded $564, 555 as a default judgment.
What is interesting about this case is that Monica Hansen did not say whether or not she actually visited the plastic surgeon. It certainly does seem that the plastic surgeon is the one who did the model’s breast implants, and that he simply did not ask for her permission to post a picture on the website. Interestingly enough, most of the websites which have reported information on the lawsuit that Monica Hansen won did not mention this tiny detail. It does seem as though the model would have been awarded more money in the event that the plastic surgeon had not even performed any work.
In addition to modeling for Maxim magazine, Monica Hansen has also modeled for a variety of other magazines, such as FHM, Esquire and Stuff. The model has appeared in over fifty different copies of magazines, and her fame is only expected to grow after word of this lawsuit gets out.
A lot of people feel that Monica Hansen acted a bit harshly about the doctor, but imagine if it had been your own breasts advertised on a plastic surgeon’s website. Even if the doctor is the one who did the Maxim model’s breast job, it seems very unfair for him to have posted the pictures on his website without her consent.
