It may be no surprise that Hilary Duff has a stalker, after all, she is a big time celebrity. However, it becomes a very serious concern when said stalker moves to the United States from Russia for the sole purpose of stalking. This is exactly what happened to Duff, who’s stalker, Maksim Miakovsky, moved to Los Angeles in an effort to gain contact with Duff and ultimately make her his girlfriend. Duff and her boyfriend, Joel Madden of Good Charlotte, filed for restraining orders against Miakovsky approximately 3 weeks ago after threats were made against the starlet and Madden. When threats escalated to that of killing Duff this weekend, police took action and arrested the stalker.
In the restraining order request filed last month, the pair stated that Miakovsky moved to the United States with the “sole purpose of meeting and becoming romantically involved” with Duff. As well, they noted that the has “admitted to being ‘obssessed’ with her,” and “has stated his intention of ‘removing his enemies’.” The removal of his enemies portion apparently refers to Madden, who Miakovsky has seen as a roadblock to fulfilling his mission of capturing Duff’s romantic interest.
Over the course of the past few months, the attempts of contacting Duff and Madden have increased in frequency. Visits have been made to her neighborhood, as well as her boyfriend’s, and her mother’s home. He has shown up at Madden’s concerts, and has made direct phone calls to Hilary’s manager. Miakovsky was detained on at least one occassion at a Good Charlotte concert, and has made threats of buying a gun and committing suicide in order to get close to the star. Fearing for family members of the couple, they also requested protection of at least 100 yards for sister Haylie, mom Susan, and Madden’s twin brother Benji.
Miakovsky was detained on Friday evening when a private investigator from Sunset Protective Services at the Residence Inn contacted him. Miakovsky told the investigator of his plans to kill the singer/actress on Sunday at an event she was scheduled to attend. He is currently being held at the Manhattan Beach Jail at 200,000 bail, with an arraignment scheduled for Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Duff continues filming for “War Inc.,” a John Cusak film, has signed on to become a Sims character, and has begun preparing for her next CD release scheduled for February 2007.
