Former American Idol Contestant, Alexis Cohen, Has Died

Alexis Cohen, who was a former contestant on American Idol, died on Saturday, July 25, 2009. She was taken to Community Medical Center in Tom’s River by paramedics in Seaside Heights. According to People News, Cohen was pronounced dead at 6:35 a.m. Cohen’s autopsy reports showed injuries which indicate that she was hit by a car and it is believed that she was a victim of a hit and run.

Cohen was killed in Seaside Heights, which is a beach town that is located in New Jersey. People reports that Deputy Chief Michael Mohel of Ocean County’s Prosecutor’s Office said that Alexis Cohen was “found unresponsive on a street about 300 yards from where her car was parked in a lot.”

Cohen lives in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She said during her footage on American Idol that she lived in a one bedroom apartment with her mother, cats, and a dog.

According to People, Mohel said, “There was evidence that her body was impacted by a vehicle.” This evidence that the autopsy report on Alexis Cohen shows includes traumatic injuries to the chest and abdominals, as well as a closed head injury.

People News says that no arrests have been made in this investigation so far. However, Cohen’s death is being treated as a homicide. It is likely that the charges will be vehicular manslaughter, which usually carries a penalty of six months to five years in most states.

Alexis Cohen tried out to be a contestant on American Idol during both seasons seven and eight. She had a very unique style, which most people would consider artsy or even hippie. Cohen claimed that her voice sounded like Janis Joplin. During her audition, Simon Cowell told her that she would be better off pursuing her plans of becoming a veterinarian. Randy Jackson said that she could be well suited for a ‘60’s cover band. All judges agreed that she was not good enough to go any further on the show.

Even though Alexis Cohen did not make it very far on American Idol, there is a good chance that you may remember seeing her footage. Cohen earned herself a lot of popularity when she went off on a rampage about how cruel Simon Cowell is, claiming that she did not think one person should feel that they are better than others and using profane language. She also ended up giving the cameras two middle fingers and claimed that she was going to pursue a career in acting instead of singing.

Interestingly enough, Tom’s River Township in NJ was ranked as one of the safest towns in America during 2008. The township is not too far from Seaside Heights, NJ, where Alexis Cohen was found dead. A lot of sources have reported that there has been a huge increase in violence in Seaside Heights over the years, however. Underage drinking is known to be one of the biggest problems in this beach town. It is possible that this could be the ultimate cause of Alexis Cohen’s death.
