Ten Great Ways To Make Friends On Campus

When you first get to a new college campus, it can be a little overwhelming. Making friends can be especially hard if you go off to a college alone, and particularly so if you are shy. Finding ways to connect with friends in college is something that every college student has to do. For some it comes natural. For those that do not find it quite so easy, here are ten great ways to make friends on campus:

1. Join a Club -The clubs on campus are there for a number of reasons. They bring like minded college students together, and this fosters great friendships.

2. Look Up High School Alumni -Most college students are not the only representatives of their high school in a given college. Look up others at the college that may have been from your high school or hometown. It will give you something in common, and they will often be glad to talk to someone from home.

3. Join Sports TeamsThe sporting teams in college are not all high level scholarship type programs. These teams are often just leagues organized by students. Look into joining the volleyball or flag football teams on campus.

4. Hit the Library -Regardless of what you are doing in college, the library will likely be a source of friends eventually. Take the time to introduce yourself. You may find a study partner as well as a friend.

5. Take Advantage of College Activities - Colleges have all kinds of mixers and get togethers to help new students make friends. Do not blow them off, as they are the easiest ways to make friends and learn about the campus you are now attending.

6. Open Your Door - An open door in a dorm is like an invitation to friends. If you study with your door open, then sometimes a new friend will walk right in and introduce themselves. This is not advised if you live in a mixed dorm, however.

7. Take a Walk - Walking the campus and being friendly will surely help you to meet new friends. Have a sit down in a popular place and do not be afraid to introduce yourself. Plenty of others will likely do the same.

8. Attend a Sporting Event - Nothing brings friends together like a game. Everyone is there to cheer on the school at these events, so you will have plenty of things in common with those around you. Dive in and meet friends all over the stadium.

9. Get To Know Your Classmates - While in class, try to get to know those around you. Most of the people in your classes will likely be freshmen as well, so they will be looking for friends just like you. Introduce yourself.

10. Check out the local hotspots - Every college campus has off campus hang outs. Find out where the local hotspots are and show up a day or two per week. You will meet friends to be sure, and likely have a great time doing it.
