Smart Activities for One-Year-Olds

When kids reach their first year of age, you should expect them to begin to be more curious and be more interested with everything around them. After all, their first year of being older than they were born is actually a hallmark in their maturity aspect. There are so many things which you needed to be familiar with so you can guide one-year olds as they progress and begin to see the world differently. Whether you are the parent, the teacher, or simply the guardian of the child, your role becomes very important during the first year of a child’s life especially if you will be spending an awful lot of time with him or her.

one-year-oldThe first thing you needed to understand is how a one year old kid is greatly different from the usual type of baby. Over the months, babies are expected to reach tripling their total accumulated weight mostly from their food intake. This totals to about 25% increase from the previous weight of the baby. This in turn marks the age of the baby’s toddler-hood which will also result to gradual mobility. You should make sure that you are there to guide the little kid every step of the way. You will also be surprised with just how much energy these little kids have fueled by their innate curiosity to look at the new things they face around them.

So to make sure you can guide the little kid during his first year and onwards his or her continuous development, you should at least plan ahead on the activities which you can line up for the kiddo. First of all, you will notice that the kid will suddenly be more attuned to other people especially towards you if he happens to spend so much time with you. Take advantage of that opportunity and play simple actions with the kid like attempting to drink on a cup or referencing to people by waving his hand. At least in this way, you will be able to teach the kid some simple ways to socialize and do basic motor functions all by himself. You can pair up these activities with songs since kids at this age start to appreciate music and even funny faces.

Aside from physical imitation, babies also begin to verbally imitate at age one. To help facilitate speaking, you can begin to talk to the kid with reference to how you wanted to be called. Other people make the mistake of doing baby-talk but actually, that is considered to be a no-no. Regardless of how young the kid is, you should take to him or her just as you would talk to older children. Doing baby-talk does not facilitate proper language and communication but instead may also be a reason why some kids end up having some difficulty straightening out his or her words.

Aside from these, you should also begin to incorporate a more diverse food experience for the child as early as his first year. This will help develop his palate and sense of appreciation for a wider variety of food groups especially on vegetables and fruits.
