Without thinking twice, most parents see no harm in going with the norms and sending their children to a public school, after all it is free education that is paid for by their tax. Besides, most of the people they know, including themselves, were educated in a public school and they turned out okay. Looking deeper in a government-provided educational system will make them realize that their children deserve better.
Public high schools are mandated to adapt non-academic subjects such as sex-education, AIDS education, multiculturalism and the likes into their system. Despite complaints from parents who naturally oppose to showing explicit sexual videos and despicable materials to their children, all students are required to attend the class. Parents have no say in what their own children are learning. Aside from the unwanted non-academic subjects, the 12-hour school day is also obstructed by pep rallies, sports and other extra-curricular activities that students are allowed to skip classes for. With this, public school students spend more time on non-academics than the actual subjects that they are sent to school for!
Public schools are designed to offer generic education for all students. The text books issued by the school are mostly designed to cater to slow-learners in an effort to ensure that all the students will learn. This lowers the educational standards of the school and prevents students from pushing their limits to learn more. The quick-learners are also subjected to boredom, which may diminish their potential. As a government-owned institution, funded fully by tax-payers, public schools do not feel the need to ameliorate their system. Unlike private schools that continuously upgrade the quality of the education they provide, public schools will not feel the threat to do so as they do not rely on customer satisfaction to survive.
The values that parents strive to teach their kids are threatened in a public school. Text books are pre-screen and censored to filter out references to Christian values and even family oriented content. In an effort to avoid offending any religious groups, all values are removed from the curriculum. For families that practice a religion, public schools tend to be harmful as the children tend to adapt the non-religious approach of the teachers. Religious tolerance often comes across as non-value for one’s own religion and all efforts from the parents to instill their faith to their children goes down the drain. This is a common trend that frustrates millions of parents. Children spend more time in school than at home, thus the school should play a big role in the students’ formation together with the parents. As this is not the case, children develop religious indifference.
With all the damages public schools can do to children, parents should consider the alternatives. Painfully expensive private schools is not the only option, there are online high schools that offer comprehensive educational programs that give an edge to students by allowing them to spend their study time on the subject that matters. Online education also allows parents to partake in their child’s education in their own homes.

My name is Andres I am currently attending a public high school and it seems that we have an 8-hour long school day. Furthermore, what is said on the second paragraph “the 12-hour school day…” is incorrect. I know that I can’t apply these school hours to everybody, but they sure do apply for me. Who would have thought that in some places of the country public school hours are 12 hours long? How exhausting, that barely gives you time to sleep and much less time to even do your homework.
